Cecilya Barba

Running for Senator, School of Natural Sciences

 

Hello, my name is Cecilya Barba, a second year Human Biology major from Merced, CA and I am currently pursing candidacy as a Natural Sciences Senator for ASUCM.

 

For the past two years here at UC Merced, I have became involved in organizations that have greatly influenced my leadership skills. I am currently the Outreach Director for the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), active member of Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), and served as the New Member Chairman for Kappa Kappa Gamma. I also volunteer three to four hours of my week in the Emergency Department at Mercy Medical Center, Merced. I have a strong background in teamwork, collaboration, and time management.  

 

From being born and raised in Merced and watching this campus grow, I want to give my time and interest to the students and let their voices be heard. If elected as a senator I want to build the transparency between ASUCM and the student body. I believe that clubs, organizations, and Greek life all play a major role in campus unity and pride. I also intend to advocate and push for funding for a medical school, which will not only benefit the UC Merced campus, but all of Central Valley. Lastly, my main focus is to broaden mental health awareness to students and the resources that we have on campus. Overall, I will work to let students’ opinions and concerns about our campus be heard, which will greatly improve our school for the future ahead.
