Salma Memon

Running for Senator at Large

My name is Salma Memon and I am running for Senator at Large. I am a first year biological sciences major with an emphasis in Human Biology from Orange County, California. Currently, I am the President of Global Medical Training as well as a member of Phi Delta Epsilon- the Pre-Medical Fraternity on campus. During high school, I helped organize many events with ASB and was involved in multiple clubs on campus. Aside from academics, I was co-captain of the Girls Middle Distance Track Team. I volunteered with the city council helping in community events such as the annual Christmas Day Parade and assisted in local beach and park clean-ups. As a current freshmen, this school will be my home for the next three years and it’s extremely important to shape it to how we see fit. Being part of such a new university campus, I see great potential in molding the campus into what we- as the students- want to see.

Here at UC Merced, my main focus will be to hear out students and voice their needs while increasing student involvement in ASUCM. We are paving the way for future bobcats and can create a learning environment unique from other university campuses. Student involvement is key in shaping a great university campus. I also want to bridge the gap between clubs and organizations on campus to ASUCM. There are many resources available to students that not everyone is fully aware of. As President of a newer club on campus, I ran into many difficulties because I was uniformed of the resources available to us. I want to minimize these hardships so that future clubs and organizations can focus solely on improving their clubs on campus. UC Merced is one of the most diverse university campuses and I want to cater to that diversity getting the necessary resources on campus for students. As a 21st century university, we should be the model for all others to follow. We are the future. If elected as senator, I promise to live by my fraternity’s motto of Facta non Verba- “Deeds not words”- to maximize student voices.

Thank you.
