Domonique Jones
Running for President
Hello lovely Bobcats,
My name is Domonique Jones and I am a third year political science major with a psychology minor from the Bay Area. I have had the privilege of serving as one of your senators for the past two years and I hope that I will be able to serve you for an additional year as the President of ASUCM.
I have worked within ASUCM for the past three years; serving as the Vice Chair of ICC my freshman year and a senator my sophomore and junior year. During my time in office, I researched the effectiveness of student recruitment and retention centers to see if they would be beneficial to UC Merced. I have also worked with numerous clubs/ organizations to assist them in obtaining funding for trips/ events and I have worked with students on issues that they have had on campus.
Aside from working with clubs/ organizations, I have also advocated on behalf of UC Merced. For UC Day, I went with the Office of Governmental Relations and UC President Napolitano to the state capital to meet with state legislatures to talk about the importance of providing funding for UC Merced and the entire UC system. I was also invited to a meeting with UC President Napolitano and the UC’s Chief Financial Officer to be updated on the negotiations with the Governor and the legislature about securing more funding for the University of California in the state budget. During this meeting, I also brought up the concerns of students regarding the affordability of their education.
I also work with and have meaningful relationships with the administrators of UC Merced being that I am a member on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women. And I am also a member on the WSCUC Steering Committee led by Vice Provost Peterson.
In May I will be traveling to Washington DC to hear from leaders on Capitol Hill and meet with members of Congress to speak on the importance of federal financial aid. I have the honor of representing UC Merced and speaking to the value of federal investments in student financial aid at UC Merced!
If elected president, I want to put you into ASUCM and this means increasing student involvement in ASUCM. I would also like to enhance the student experience at UC Merced through an increase of access and diversity of opportunities for students to take advantage of. And lastly, I want to make ASUCM work for you by making your student representatives accountable.
Thank you for your time and support.
