Kennan Conner
Running for President
A year ago, I didn't know what the letters ASUCM were, much less care about the organization they stood for. What I did care about, and continue to, are the students it should serve. In the year since then, I've witnessed a great need for fresh perspective, and have dedicated myself to becoming the leader who can provide it.
It is precisely because I wasn't invited, but fought my way in, that I understand ASUCM's inefficiencies. I have overcome enough that I’m unafraid to voice the complaints others are either too intimidated to raise, or blinded to see. More than complaints, however, I look to amplify the unheard pleas of our forgotten students.
As of today, students only speak up when an organization asks them to, and, in return, are given no assurances that they've been heard. Students should always feel welcome, and their perspectives truly considered, but the rejection they are inevitably offered makes participation difficult.
When students aren't interested in student government, student government cannot stand for the interests of the students. Exposed, the reality is plain to see, our undergraduate population doesn't care, because no one has cared about them.
Whether I win or lose, one thing won't change: your story matters to me, and your considerations are worth more than what they've been bought for. I will always be here to listen, to talk, and to advocate on your behalf.
My name is Kennan Conner, and I hope to serve you as your President.
